Stress Management in the Workplace / Our personal favorite fix
Before we get to the causes and symptoms of stress I want to give you afun fix. We recently discovered an amazing tool that can help in a myriad of ways - to hash out ideas in a creative and fun way. If you jump to the What is Mind Mapping page, you will see why we love this tool so much.
Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to deal with stress in the workplace.
The following are helpful ways for stress management in the workplace:
- Expect stress – it is always helpful to accept the fact that every single one of us experiences stress. Stress is part of life. No human being is exempt from experiencing stress. This is the first step toward good stress management. This one's easy.
- Live a healthy lifestyle – A healthy individual more or less feels good about himself on the inside and on the outside. Living a healthy lifestyle also reduces the risk for certain health issues such as diabetes and heart problems.
This could add up to one’s positive perspective in work and life in general.
- Improve on interpersonal communication – this is one of the most simple but most useful stress management tools in the workplace. Sometimes all it takes is to change the way you communicate with others.
Communication plays a vital role in anybody’s job and life in general. Improving interpersonal skills could ease and straighten out relationships with colleagues or clients. It gives one a better understanding of where the other person is coming from, so it will be easier to show compassion and empathy. Once these two traits are brought into play, it will allow for a more positive communication and less stress.
- Do not over-commit yourself – accepting more tasks with shorter periods of time to finish will add up to stress. Do whatever it takes to avoid any extra stress. When the situation calls for it, learn to say "No."
- Resist perfectionism, avoid negativism – Being pessimistic during times of stress adds up to one’s present high-stress level. This consumes much of your time, which could be more usefuly spentl to increase output. Also, avoid aiming for perfection. Set your sights on doing the best job possible given the time and resources at your disposal.
- Prioritize tasks and set corresponding time frames – this will save you a lot of time. Prioritizing tasks will spare you from worrying about deadlines. If tasks are prioritized, more important or urgent projects will be completed first.
Another equally important component to this technique to managing stress management in the workplace is setting a realistic and reachable time frame for each task. Time is of the essence and so setting time frames must be handled in a reasonable way.
So whether you work at home or for someone else, stress management techniques are highly recommended. Stress management in the workplace is possible. An open-mind and genuine desire to manage stress is the first step to easing stress while incresing productivity.
