What is Mind Mapping?
Put simply, mind mapping is a tool to help you visualize what you think. And once you see this tool you will you will never approach projects the same way again.
Mind mapping is an illustration that represents thoughts, tasks, words or expressions arranged around the main keyword or idea. Its purpose is to generate, visualize, structure and categorize ideas. Mind mapping also aids in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing. The elements described above, around a mind map are arranged spontaneously, based on the importance of concepts.
What is Mind Mapping / An Idea Generator
Mind mapping is one of the best ways ever conceived to develop new ideas. Here's why - the human brain performs much better when formulating concepts it processes in terms of "pictures" instead of numbers or just words on a page. By invoking visual aspects, the brain is actually much more productive. Add symbols and pictures and of course colors, and your brain will offer you up options where you were previously stuck.
Mind Mapping is thinking with shapes, colors, and what is called progressive concept "branches" that seem to flow organically from your mind. Not only is it a powerful development tool - it's fun! Want some more examples of Mind Mapping?...Just follow this link.

Mind Mapping Tips / A Little History
Mind maps were improved in the late 60s by Tony Buzan. It was used for helping students make notes by just using key words and images. They are much quicker to make since their visual quality is much simpler to review.
The non-linear nature of mind maps makes it uncomplicated to link and reference different elements of the map. In the mid 70’s Peter Russell collaborated with Tony Buzan, creating a variety of educational institutions and international corporations.
With this powerful graphic technique, a universal key to unlock the potential of the brain is developed. The full range of cortical skills – image, number, logic, color, and spatial awareness is harnessed in a unified powerful manner. With this, your brain is given full freedom to roam its infinite areas.
Mind Mapping Tips / Getting Primed
Priming a mind map is easy to do, and natural. So before we dig into our mind mapping tips there are a few things that you need: a blank piece of paper (with no lines), colored pens and pencils, your brain, and your imagination. Got that? Good.
Now you’re ready to follow the mind mapping tips:
- Use a Center Reference Point. Start at the midpoint of a blank page in a landscape position. To begin at the middle will give your mind freedom to stretch out in all expanses and to express it more naturally later on.
- Think Visually. Use a picture to represent your idea. Images help you use your imagination.
- Explore Your Color Palette. Apply colors as much as you can. Colors will create excitement to your brain. Colors will make it more fun, thus giving your thoughts a more energized flow of ideas.
- Form Connections. Link and join your first branches to the core picture and connect your second- and third-level branches to the first and second levels, and so on. Your brain works better by linking things up. By associating these ideas, you will remember a lot more easily.
- No Straight Lines. Create curved branches. Straight lines are monotonous and uninspiring to your thoughts. Also, straight lines can wear out your ideas quickly.
- Simplify and Consolidate Phrases. Work with single keywords. This will give your thoughts more flexibility.
- Expand On Images. Utilize more images, while branching out, as much as you can. The more images, the more words, the more ideas.
